Run report: Yes, you can

Last night was our weekly run, and what a night for a run it was. The weather was perfect and we had a solid group of 8 – mostly Team R2R, a few who have been running with us since January, AND! a newbie. My favorite!

This newbie was a friend who hasn’t gone for a run in a long long time. He didn’t actually even have running shoes! But he was super brave and powered through the full 5 miles without taking a break. He was suffering by the end, but he made it, and that’s the most important thing. An inspiring run! And a reminder that anyone can do this. Five miles right off the bat is really ambitious. But why don’t you try and run one mile today? You can take breaks if you need to. Just move a little bit. It feels really good.

As for my run? Well, it was fine. Not terrible, not wonderful. Just average. And that’s fine. But I do think I need to get in more miles. My major issue during marathon training was not getting in enough runs, and I’m still not. So I’m going to work on that, since there’s no substitute for mileage.

We’re leaving for Rhode Island this morning and I’m bringing my running stuff. I don’t have a route there that I love, or that I’ve been really successful with, but I need to keep up the momentum.

Happy Weekend!
